Meeting about the planning of a Norwegian ELIXIR node
Supported by the Research Council of Norway we are organising the meeting "Towards a Norwegian ELIXIR node". The meeting will be held in
the auditorium on the ground floor at Forskningsbygget (Oslo
University Hospital/Radiumhospitalet, Montebello) on May 11th,
starting at 09:00.
The purpose of the meeting is to present the ELIXIR initiative as a whole, the current plans for establishment of a Norwegian node, and have a discussion concerning the organisation, funding, content and profile of a Norwegian node. We hope that groups/centres who are potential users and collaborators of the Node (and potential contributors to the Node) will take part in the meeting and engage in discussions.
Format of meeting
The meeting will commence with an informal dinner in the evening of May 10th. The main meeting on the 11th will start with presentations of the ELIXIR initiative, the status of plans in the Nordic countries, and presentations and discussions relating to organizational issues. The second part of the meeting will focus on the content and profile of the Norwegian Node. The meeting will have short presentations and there will be time for discussions. The number of participants should be well below 100.
Meeting program
The program is tentative - new versions will be posted here. The focus before lunch is to present the European ELIXIR initiative and hear about initiatives to establish National nodes in some of the Scandinavian countries. After lunch, potential users, collaborators, and providers will give short presentations before the profile of the Norwegian node will be discussed. Our hope is to through the meeting adjust and refine a scaffold of a plan for the Norwegian node.

The Norwegian Node
The initiative to establish a Norwegian node has been taken by the groups responsible for the FUGE Bioinformatics platform (Inge Jonassen, UiB; Eivind Hovig, UiO/OUH; Finn Drabløs, NTNU; Nils Peder Willassen, UiTø) and the initiative is headed by Inge Jonassen.
The Research Council of Norway (RCN) has granted Jonassen a project to prepare plans for the establishment of a Norwegian Node and the meeting on May 11th is an important part of this. The main goal of the preparatory project is to prepare an application for funding from RCN for a call in 2010.
